Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What can Acupuncture treat?

A: The World Health Organization recognizes acupuncture and Chinese medicine as effective for over 43 common ailments including: Anxiety, Depression, Stress, Insomnia, Addictions, Weight control, Headache, Migraine, Dizziness, Chronic fatigue syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Low back pain, Osteoarthritis and joint pains, Sciatica, Constipation, Diarrhea, Gastritis, Colitis, Stiff neck, Tendinitis, Bursitis, Sprains, Frozen shoulder, Tennis elbow, Injuries from auto accidents, Infertility, Morning sickness, Premenstrual syndrome (PMS), Irregular Menses, Menstrual cramps, Menopausal symptoms, Impotence, Nocturnal enuresis, Urinary incontinence, Neurogenic bladder dysfunction, Trigeminal neuralgia, Facial palsy (within 3-6 months), Paresis following stroke, Peripheral neuropathies, Intercostal neuralgia, Ringing in ears, Deafness, Meniere’s disease, Earache and many more.

Q: How Many Treatments Will I Need?

A: This will depend on where you are in the recovery process. Initially, 5-6 weekly treatments are recommended. After this, some individuals transition to bi-weekly or eventually monthly treatments as things progress. Each person is a unique individual with their own lifestyle and health history. Some heal quicker than others. There is a cumulative effect with each additional acupuncture treatment. As balance ensues, some individuals continue regular treatments as a preventive measure and mental-emotional boost.

Q: Does it hurt?

A: Acupuncture is not always painless but shouldn’t hurt much. Some areas of our body are more sensitive and you may notice more of a sensation there. This is usually a quick pinch when the needle breaks the skin, and should dissipate right after. Most patients remark that they feel calm and relaxed during and after the treatment. The needles used in acupuncture are much smaller than the hypodermic needles you’ve encountered in the doctor’s office to draw blood or give injections. The Acupunctures Needles I Use Are: Sterilized, Used only once and then disposed, Made of surgical grade stainless steel, Solid (not hollow, like a syringe), Contain no chemicals or additional products

Q: What should I wear?

A: Loose, comfortable clothing. There are acupuncture points all over the body, from the top of our head to the tips of our fingers and toes. Wear clothing that will allow access to your back, abdomen, chest, arms, and legs. Please refrain from wearing any perfumes, cologne, or strongly scented beauty products.
