Founded by David T. Nederlander in 1912, the Nederlander Organization is currently in its third generation of theatre development, ownership, management and production under the guidance of James M. Nederlander.
The Nederlander family owns, operates and presents in theaters across the globe and is responsible for producing, co-producing, booking and investing in some of the world's most successful musicals, revivals and touring productions. The Broadway theatres owned and/or operated by Nederlander include the Brooks Atkinson, Lunt- Fontanne, Gershwin, Marquis, Minskoff, Nederlander, Palace, Richard Rodgers and Neil Simon Theatres; in Detroit: the Fisher and Masonic Temple Theatres; in Los Angeles: the Pantages Theatre; and in Chicago – Bank of America Theatre, Cadillac Palace Theatre, Oriental Theatre, Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, Broadway Playhouse; in Charleston, SC: North Charleston PAC; in Anaheim: The Grove; and in London, England: the Aldwych, Adelphi and Dominion Theatres.
Over the years, the Nederlander Organization has booked and/or produced a substantial number of perennially popular musicals, including Movin' Out, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Harvey Fierstein in Fiddler on the Roof, Hairspray, Wicked, Rent, Copenhagen, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Riverdance, Chicago, Will Rogers Follies, Sunset Boulevard, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and Aida.
